What do you see in this picture? Is it the picture of a frog or a horse?Well, It depends on the way you see it. Similarly, finding solution to a problem is like seeing this picture. The solution you choose will very much depend on what perspective you adopt when you are analyzing it. When your problem involved in dealing with difficult person, try to see the problem not only from your perspective but also from the other person’s perspective.
According to your perspective, your boss was so harsh and intolerable when he was yelling at you in front of your colleagues that caused you felt humiliated and unworthy although, surprisingly in a minute later, he talked to you in a friendly manner like there was nothing happen. In your opinion, he is also a dictatorial kind of person, ignorant of etiquette in work place, a very difficult one to work with and a little bit insane. You really cannot understand him at all.
But have you ever thought of his opinion towards you? Perhaps for him, you are a very lazy, stubborn subordinate who loves to be disobedient. He might also assume you as an irresponsible kind of worker for coming late to the office all the time. It is possible for him to accuse you as an arrogant one since you rarely come to his desk to report the assignments that you have done.
Some people might have this kind of problem, problem dealing with difficult kind of person. When that happens, why don’t you try to stand in that person’s shoes? Try to see thing from his perspective. What he actually wants from you, what he hates you to do, his way of thinking, etc. Try also to see beyond the person. There is also a possible chance that he actually is having domestic problems, so he takes them out on you or people around. He can be possibly in great distressed and he hates people who seem insensitive toward his problem. There are many other possibilities. Accordingly, if you can do all of the steps suggested, the dispute can be minimized and your life will be happier.
Sometimes, it is not easy to see people from their perspective or to stand in somebody’s shoes. To solve this, you can perhaps ask a person you look up to help you see thing from different angle. By discussing it, your attitude, opinion or assumption toward thing can be more objective and logical as long as you also open yourself for new input. In the case of the pict above, it is possible that a person can see only a frog or only a horse in it while others can see that there are both a frog and a horse, just depends on how we see it.
If you always try to see everything not only from your side but also from the other’s side, you will be wiser, more tolerant to people, understand others better and more forgiving. Eventually, many people will love to be around since you are a nice person to know to.
